In today's blog post we want to talk about the seasonal winter vegetables and show you how you can use regional shopping behavior nature and protect the environment actively. Although the seasonal offer in winter is a little smaller than at other times of the year, it will not be a problem to cover your nutrient requirements with the local winter vegetables listed here. Although domestic cultivation in Germany would be possible without any problems, unfortunately fruit and vegetables are still imported in large quantities. That means the percentage of fruit self-sufficiency is around 22 percent - which is not exactly much. Fortunately, it's more for vegetables - about 36 percentt. In the case of apples, it is almost more than half! Around 63 percent come from local cultivation. Excellent! But: There's more! In order to protect the environment and resources long-term and sustainably, you should do as much as possible on < Set t4>regional products. Another environmentally friendly aspect that we should all keep in mind: local products from your area automatically have a shorter path to the supermarket shelf than imported goods. Longer transport routes entail high energy consumption and strain thereby the climate - especially during air transport. If there is no other way and you need fruit or vegetables that you cannot buy regionally in the current season, then at least choose products from Southern Europe instead of overseas.
Most of the time, the producer or retailer states where the fruit and vegetables to be sold come from. You can identify the country of origin from the goods label. There are a few exceptions here, however. The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food has recorded these in the following list. Paying attention to regionality and sustainability when shopping in the long term has many advantages. You spare resources and support at the same time regional manufacturers . In the meantime, the government has also recognized the necessity sustainable consumption and is addressing this through various projects. Would you like to find out more about regionality? Unfortunately, instead of the manufacturer, you often only find the note “made for” on the packaging and then the name of the supermarket. Of course, in the winter months the selection of regional fruit and vegetables is logically a little smaller than in summer or autumn. Nevertheless, in addition to seasonal fruit and vegetables, you also have the possibility of regional stock goods such as potatoes or Here you can see which vegetables are seasonally available in winter and which you can look forward to at other times of the year. Above all, look forward to a varied offer of cabbage, tuber and root vegetables. Cabbage contains important trace elements, vitamin C and many good plant substances.
